Goals

I should start by mentioning that the reason that I don’t have a goal for every blog is because I usually have spent multiple days on my goals.

Day #4 Goal

This afternoon I plan to freestyle for 20 minutes without stopping. I am going to play a series of beats from YouTube and see if I can further strengthen my freestyle muscle. I plan to have the skills to create a one take freestyle track by the end of the summer. I would also like to be able to freestyle for long periods of time with out stumbling over my words or messing up.

Day #6

Day #8

My goal on Day #8 was to find an old school sample. I felt very inspired that morning, and wanted to make an old school style beat.

My goal for the day was to find a goal. What I mean by this is, I want to have a set project to put the majority of my time in to. The sequel to Player In This Game was it.

Day #14

My goal today was to run through things and make sure that I am caught up in class. I feel, it is important for me to pass with an A.

School of Rock – Day 14 – Voice, Preparation, and Presentation

SUMMARY

Today I put the majority of my time into my blog. I wanted to make sure that everything was up to date and ready to be graded. I also overthought how to export an Mp3 from my mac to my Windows PC. I finally figured out that it I could simply just email it to my self.

LEADERSHIP ACTIVITYLeadership Project (SMART Goal Evidence)

My goal today was to run through things and make sure that I am caught up in class. I strongly feel the need to pass with an A. I completed my goal today.

Final Captain’s Log. Day #11-13

Over The course of the past 3 days, I have been hard at work on what I am now calling, Player In This Game II. I also came up with the idea to switch the production style mid way through the song to a more jazzy and classic Hip-Hop style. I kept the main synth hook of the beat and used a stand up bass to replicate it. This made this part of the production sound like part of the same song as opposed to a different song with the same chord progression. This added a large contrast to the composition, bringing the listener back in. Yesterday, on Thursday, I recorded my demo takes. Unfortunately, due to a schedule conflict, I will be unable to attend next week. I will still be presenting my demo mix through my blog.

Captain’s Log Day #10

Today I accomplished great things. I am restructuring a song that I made about 4 years ago called Player In This Game. The lyrics at the time where about my life at the time and how it was difficult to write lyrics. Now I am creating a sequel to that song about my current life and how it’s pretty easy to write. I am also reusing and adding to the original production. While I did make the original beat for the song. It was professionally engineered so it will definitely be a challenge to improve the production. I added several elements to the beat today. I also wrote a couple of demo verses. Today was ULTRA PRODUCTIVE!!!!

My goal for the day was to find a goal. What I mean by this is, I want to have a set project to put the majority of my time in to. This is it.

Captain’s Log Day #8

Today I felt inspired to make an old school style beat. I started by looking on YouTube for a Barber Quartet that I could sample. The only “samplable” things I could find where most definitely copywrited. I eventually decided to just use an apple loop. So that I wasn’t just dragging loops into GarageBand I chopped up the sample, making it my own. One of the main inspirations for this was the Blue World sample used by Mac Miller. Logic also recently released some of his music from when he was an underground artist that was full of samples. After chopping up the sample I added some reverberated drums and some other instruments. It’s coming together quite nicely. In addition I have a basic idea for a chorus. Today was extremely productive.

Captain’s Log Day #7

This morning I jotted some lyrics down to get into the creative flow. I also composed a few melodies for a beat that I am currently working on. I am very proud of how it is turning out.

This afternoon, I mixed some more of my music on the professional monitoring speakers in the studio room. While these speakers aren’t in the ideal location, I can still make the basic adjustments needed for my compositions to not destroy people’s speakers. Today was fairly productive.

Captain’s Log Day #6

This morning I worked on some of my production in GarageBand. I found a great autotune plugin that I used to autotune my vocals on a track I am currently working on. I also EQed a couple of beats that I made with the professional mixing headphones in the studio.

This afternoon I finished EQing some of the beats on the monitoring speakers. After a short break, I freestyled over some instrumentals over popular rap songs for about thirty minutes. Today was very productive.

Captain’s Log Day #5

This morning I decided to warm up my brain by practicing my freestyles. This got me ready to write some lyrics. After browsing my selection of beats for a few minute’s I came across one that I that felt right. I wrote a rap verse about my current life that could possibly be the intro to my album. I was pretty proud of it.

This afternoon I continued polishing my lyrics on the “What’s Poppin” remix. I feel like I was very productive today.

Captain’s Log Day #4

Today I started the morning with some beat making. I added some melodies to the beat that I am now calling “Questionable Anime Hoodie”. I am very happy with the mellow melodic theme of the production. I also figured out to quite the piano down. For a while even when I turned it down it was still loud. I remembered that I could EQ it so it’s quieter. This was a good problem solving experiance.

In the Afternoon I worked on recording the lyrics for my remix of the popular song “What’s Poppin” by Jack Harlow. I decided to re-record it because I felt as though my cadence wasn’t energetic enough. I also practiced the more complex flow patterns so that my annunciation was on point when I recorded. Finally I through down some adlibs to finish up. The song is now a complete rough demo. The only thing left is some EQing and mastering. I am going to save step for class time so that I can use the professional mixing headphones to ensure the best result.
